This book is part of a series of guidebooks for children.  When going on a trip, most adults will grab a guidebook so that they can plan their itinerary.  This book is intended to help the child figure out what to expect in this unknown city.  There's  a lovely letter to parents right in the beginning, with a letter to the child immediately after, explaining that it's specifically the child's special guidebook.

This book is intended to get kids excited about a trip to New York City.  Even if you're not planning to travel there, there's enough information that a child could learn about New York City in a fun and educational way.  There are games and quizzes and plenty of facts, of course.

The illustrations are pretty interesting.  We have some bright and colorful areas throughout the book.  What's unusual is that we also have plenty of photos that go along with the paragraphs.
